This was a two year project that required the making of over 100 larger than life ceramic poppy flowers. The flowers are made in sections and when assembled they are exhibited on 3 large platform spaces. The work is a product of 12 years of personal travel and service to Romania. The installation was made out of respect for the Romanian people that have survived and are still recovering from a brutal communist regime. It also represents the potential of many Romanian children who are institutionalized and are waiting for a better future. The sight of poppies growing wild in open fields in Romania is an incredible image of great beauty and strength. I created the work with my Romanian daughter in mind, overlaying the vision of strength and beauty with a recreation of her amazing growth and development since her adoption.
